Graduate Studies at the ICT

Partnering with Franciscan University of Steubenville, the Institute for Catholic Theology offers an enhanced formation experience for students enrolled in the online MA in Theology or MA in Catechetics and Evangelization program at Franciscan. Featuring world-renowned professors, these online programs provide theological and pastoral formation that is academically excellent and passionately Catholic. What is unique about the partnership between the Institute of Catholic Theology and Franciscan University is the support it provides students: Rather than be a digital-only experience, Institute of Catholic Theology graduate students meet monthly for ongoing fellowship and formation. This allows for a “best of both worlds” experience – great theological formation and personal interaction with faculty, speakers and staff.

Master’s Degrees from Franciscan University

The Master of Arts in Theology and Christian Ministry (MA THE) and the Master of Arts in Catechetics and Evangelization (MACE) both are grounded in the study of Catholic doctrine and help a student more effectively live and share his or her Catholic faith. However, each field of study has a different emphasis. The MA THE is for those students whose primary desire is to know their faith more deeply and so to respond to the universal call to holiness in their everyday lives as spouses, parents, friends, and co-workers. The MACE is for those who have a professional desire to hand on their faith in Church positions such as high school theology teachers, directors of religious education, coordinators of youth ministry, directors of RCIA or sacramental preparation programs.

Master of Arts in Catechetics and Evangelization

This program trains Catholics who want to serve the Church and minister to others in the New Evangelization. A fully online program, classes are taught by the same professors who teach here on our campus in Steubenville. This guarantees the same rigorous scholarship, dynamic education, and fidelity to the magisterium for which Franciscan University is known internationally.

Master of Arts in Theology and Christian Ministry

This program immerses the student in Sacred Scripture, Tradition, and magisterial teaching, giving a deeply challenging and authentically Catholic theological education. The MA program provides students with a solid, graduate-level foundation in Catholic theology that will enable them to serve effectively in a variety of fields of ministry, or to pursue further graduate studies in theology.
